BEHAVIORAL PARENT TRAINING (BPT)
Transform your parenting. Transform your family.
WHAT IS BEHAVIORAL PARENT TRAINING (BPT)
Behavioral Parent Training (BPT), sometimes called Parent Management Training (PMT) or Behavior Therapy, is an evidence-based approach that empowers parents to support meaningful behavioral change in their children.
At its core, BPT is designed to help parents modify their own responses and strategies to evoke lasting, positive change in their children. By reshaping interactions and reinforcing adaptive behaviors, parents learn to create an environment that nurtures cooperation, emotional regulation, and growth. The Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT) defines this approach as one in which “parents are taught how to increase desirable child behavior, reduce misbehavior, improve parent-child interactions, and create a positive family atmosphere.”
While it may seem intuitive to focus treatment directly on the child, research shows that parents are the most effective agents of change. Children often struggle to retain therapeutic strategies, especially in moments of emotional intensity. By contrast, when parents are equipped with consistent tools, structure, and reinforcement strategies, they become powerful facilitators of their child’s success both at home and beyond.
At purepsych, this approach not only transforms child behavior – it helps to restore family balance and strengthen the relational foundation that supports a child’s development.

The sign of great parenting is not the child’s behavior. The sign of truly great parenting is the parent’s behavior.

BUILDING POSITIVE PARENT-CHILD CONNECTIONS
Children flourish when connection, not correction, is at the center of family life.
A secure, trusting relationship between parent and child forms the foundation for emotional regulation, resilience, and confidence. When parents approach moments of difficulty with warmth, curiosity, and consistency, they nurture both growth and cooperation.
Each positive interaction becomes more than a behavioral exchange – it becomes an opportunity to build safety, self-worth, and belonging.
